The Island of Lefkada luxury villa vacation Lefkada
Lefkada lies in the Ionian Sea of Greece’s west coast, approximately halfway between Corfu to the north and Ithaca and Kephalonia to the south. At just 35km long and 15km wide it is relatively easy to explore in a week and offers a wide range of activities for your luxury villa vacation Lefkada.
The azure waters of the Ionian Sea are a real attraction and the varied coastline boasts a host of sandy beaches and secluded pebbly coves. The dramatic white cliffs, such as those of Cape Lefkatas on the southernmost tip are worth the short drive. Most beaches can be reached by car and a walk. However a few are only accessible by sea which is a perfect excuse for hiring a boat for a day or two – try Trident Boats or Nisos Yacht Charter. Sailing and water sports, including world class windsurfing at Vasiliki, are all in plentiful supply.
The island’s green, wooded interior is also worth exploring. You’ll find glorious scenery, great walking paths, mountains rising to over 1100m and a scattering of unspoilt villages, whose way of life has been relatively untouched by the tourism the island attracts.
The main town on the island, Lefkas, is located approximately 15 minutes away from Nidri. It boasts a pretty maze of streets with tavernas, shops and bars and a popular marina. A few minutes drive from the town will take you to mainland Greece via a causeway. Frequent ferry services from the ports of Nidri and Vasiliki, on the east and south of the island respectively, run to the other islands of the Ionian archipelago (including Meganissi, Ithaca and Kephalonia), making it easily possible to explore more widely.
